Zoe Rose Designs started twelve months ago after leaving the busy capital for a new family life in rural Herefordshire.I spent many years in London, working in a gallery, and then for Art Review Magazine. Eventually we sought a more tranquil life in the countryside. I wished to immerse myself as fully as possible in my new environment, and not waste a second of it. I also wanted to realise my creative potential, as a career as well as enjoying the benefits of living the country life. Herefordshire is a beautiful county, and was always somewhere we had dreamed of living. We were blown away by its gently rolling countryside and beautiful river views of the Wye Valley. It is beautiful all year round, and there is always something to inspire my work here. In Summer, you can walk by the river, visit picturesque places such as Hay-on-Wye, or Ross-on-Wye, and in Winter the landscape is stunning in mist, rain, or snow. My embroideries and designs are inspired by the flora and fauna found in the natural environment, and are handmade with natural materials such as cotton and wool. The original designs are taken from flowers found in gardens, florists, or the hedgerow. I take my camera with me wherever I go, just in case I see a flower or plant that inspires me. My designs are often realistic, but I also enjoy taking key elements and creating a style. With my handmade embroideries I will always work without a pattern as I feel that this gives me freedom much like when painting. The procees of my work is therefor very important to me and in turn very organic. With larger projects, I scan my design into a computer which then produces a stitch pattern. |
